I don’t think I would go vegan but I respect people that do. I eat vegan meals, restrict how much meat and animal products I use and only buy higher welfare produce. If everyone did that, things would improve immeasurably. I don’t think most people would go the full distance though and it’s probably too much to expect of everyone.
Haha, thanks for the explanation… although now I feel like I want to be enlightened as to what the in-joke is 😉
I just read your question out loud to my office mates and it sparked a really interesting discussion so thank you! I am not a vegan and i don’t think I would find enough to eat if i did try to go vegan. I had a conversation recently with a friend (who is vegetarian) that I understand vegetarians do not want animals to be killed for them to eat but I never understood why there is the issue surrounding eating by-products. But she pointed out that the reason she doesn’t eat meat is the environmental impact, and the relatively intensive farming. And these animals are still being intensively farmed even if you only buy by-products.
So in answer to your question no I wouldn’t go vegan, although like Carrie I always make sure that my food is from sustainable sources and has met the appropriate welfare standards. However, if I was told that if I were to go vegan tomorrow all farming of animals for food etc would stop completely then it is something I would have to think very carefully about.
cabbagelife! Interesting name, would like to hear more about this inside joke of yours… No, I would never be a vegan. I like meat and fish and eggs and I believe that if eaten in moderation and from animals that are raised in proper conditions then it’s reasonable to eat animals. I think we eat too much meat, but that is not the same as to say that we shouldn’t eat any.
I love the name cabbage, it has a cute ring to it.
Unfortunately, I would have to say no. I have tried it for 9 months and it just didn’t work out for me. I respect people who are vegan though, for they are doing good for their own health, for the environment and for animals.
