I have always been interested in animals and my first real taste of animal behaviour was when I did a study looking at behaviour in two species of langur monkey. I started looking specifically at elephants during my masters when I was asked to do some voluntary work for a group called the Elephant Welfare Group – they are a government group who work with zoos in the UK and Ireland to help to improve elephant welfare. I decided to look at how elephants choose their pals simply because it hadn’t really been done before – I figured if no-one else had done it then there was the possibility for me to find out something new 🙂
