  Very good question! Some say its because of language, others say its because of group culture where we develop new things that build upon one another. But the real answer is yet to be discovered.
  
  I am not sure of any evidence of another civilisation like ours from other planets. And given that humans are pretty smart and are found everywhere, I am not sure whether a new species would be able to overtake us.
