They need light from the sun because that’s the energy source they’re trying to use and they need chlorophyll which is the green pigment that absorbs the light. That’s what gives most plants their incredible colour.

hmm… light is pretty essential, but what plants need to have is chloroplasts really. Chloroplasts are organelles or structures (as you prefer to call them) that have chlorophyl, the pigment that converts light into energy.

Good question! Just like how animals and humans need to feed to survive, plants photosynthesis to obtain food in the form of starch and sugars. Animals depends on plants for food, so we depend on animals and plants so we should be thankful that plants obtain their food using the sun (i.e. photosynthesis).

Plants need sunlight, carbon dioxide, water and special stuff called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a bit like the solar panels on your roof – it converts the sun’s energy into plant energy – a real power plant! The chlorophyll does this by turning the sunlight, carbon dioxide and water into glucose (plant energy) and oxygen (exhaust fumes from the leaves). Clever stuff!
