      Great question. Positive reinforcement actually means adding something to target a behaviour- it’s not actually about whether what you do is nice or not. If you want to know how you stop a horse from doing something negative using rewards then you can reward them for doing the opposite – so if you don’t like them fidgeting around while you try to groom, reward them with a treat when they stand still.
