Never – my work isn’t really based on that which is good because I prefer being outside with the animals instead

I am not really in the lab very often – I tried squeezing an elephant in but it was a tight squeeze through the doors and the smell was incredible!

However I do help out in some practicals – Genetics and Animal Physiology so I am occasionally (about 3hrs per week at the moment) in the lab for those practicals. Most recently I have been helping 3rd years identify crime suspects and helping 1st years do dissections

These days, quite often. Yesterday I spent most of my day scrubbing aquaria with lemon juice to remove old limescale. Today I drew lines inside the aquaria where I’m going to glue little partitions to be able to join or separate my fish for different experiments. My aquarium room is coming along nicely though, soon I’ll be able to bring in the fish!

I work with wild animals so I don’t have a lab – I work outside. But I only work outside when the birds are singing – and only when I’m not teaching. Which usually means spring or summer. I also do some work with fish in our aquarium so i can visit this anytime – but my students and helpers do most of the work in the aquarium so I just call in to check everything is ok (and maybe to have a quiet talk with the fish!)
