I started studying animal behaviour when I began my degree in 2004, but I got more heavily involved in 2012 when I did my masters degree and started looking specifically at elephant behaviour

I have been studying animal behaviour ever since I discovered you could actually study it for real. It started when I was a student of psychology when I was 22. We had a class on how animals learn or inherit some behaviours. I thought it was really interesting and asked the teacher about it. I then spent 6 months working for someone he knew at another university – he worked on birdsong. And the rest is history. Animal Behaviour is a really important science – I wish I had known back then that you could study it at university like my students do here at Aberystwyth

hmm… I did my Bachelors thesis project in 2002-03 so I guess since then really. I enjoyed it so much I never looked back. 🙂

This is my 8th year, and it really fascinating, especially since we know so little about the behaviour of wildlife. The behaviour of wild animals are difficult to study as they are out in the forest and sometimes very secretive.

I’ve always been interested in it and observed the animals i was around and tried to understand their behaviour. I started studying it formally when I began my Masters degree which was 8 years ago now. Seems like a long time now!
