Hi Martina and Patriix! I love being a scientist! I think I’ve always been a researcher at least. I remember building “houses” for snails when I was 5-6 and I must have been about 7 when I decided I wanted to be a marine biologist. The first word I ever said was not “mum” or “dad”, it was “squid”! True story! As for when I started for real, I think it was when I did my bachelors project, that was my first experience doing real research, contributing new knowledge to the world and I love it, I loved being in the field, I loved watching the animals, I loved the challenge of making sense of my data. I think it was at that point that I really decided that was what I wanted to continue doing for the rest of my life.

      Hi Martina & Patrix
Although I’ve been a scientist for…. a long time I don’t think of myself as one. But I am! Scientists ask questions about the world (the world of animal behaviour for me) and then we try to answer them – that’s what I do and it’s fun trying! I started being a scientist when I was still a student – so i was about 22. That was when I discovered there was a science of animal behaviour. I tried it out and loved it. And here I am now

Loving it! I get to go to the forests to search for the clouded leopards and play test my games with students. I would say I started when I was 14 perhaps when the high school curriculum got me really interested in Biology

I love being a scientist – we’re finding information that can help animals and people and it’s so interesting. I didn’t start in science until I was 23 when I began my Masters degree. i didn’t get my first job in science until I was 28.

I absolutely love being a scientist! I get to think up things I want to look at and then go out and do them, I can’t think of many jobs where you have that amazing level of flexibility! I guess i started being a scientist when i went off to university, but i have been most heavily involved in science since i started my masters in 2012 so I was 25
