The only thing that matters is that whoever they’re singing to likes it!

Some probably sing better than other but hey, have you never listened to those “sounds of the ocean” CD’s that are meant to help you relax and meditate? You should give them a try! ;)… I can tell you one thing, no one has ever told me they’d like t record my voice…

I have always thought the little calls I have heard played out on video clips on nature programmes like the ones done by David Attenborough sound really nice! But I guess as Carrie says it is only important for the ones that they are singing to… and whales continue to find mates so I guess they are doing something right 🙂

It depends what you mean by “nice”. Nice to us or nice to whales? A whale might be attracted to a song because it recognises one of its family. Or it might hear another song and know it is an unrelated group which might cause trouble. We might find the sound of whales restful and calming but that doesn’t mean the whales always will

      hahaha nice question!

Some of the songs whales sing are out of the range of the human ear and so we cannot hear them. Besides they are usually below the waters and far from land and so many never hear their songs.

Whale songs are also not meant for us, and largely catered to communication with each other, therefore I wouldn’t say they have to be nice for us to appreciate their songs.

Wait till you hear me sing! Its really bad haha.
