In captivity its relatively easy because we can protect them from predators, injury and disease and make sure they have the nutrition they need. In the wild we can’t interfere as much. My mother-in-law rescues orphaned seal pups because their numbers are low. She raises them on a seal formula she designed and then releases them when they reach the right weight. They do really well afterwards so she’s making a difference doing that.
